Secrets Vault enables you to securely store and manage sensitive information using visual cryptography. Instead of traditional passwords, your secret is protected by an innocuous image, making it both highly secure and easy to recover. This guide will walk you through the process of creating a new secret, detailing the types of secrets you can save and the key features available for organisation and retrieval.

Types of Secrets You Can Store #

Secrets Vault allows users to store various types of sensitive information securely. When creating a new secret, you can choose from the following types:

  • Text Secrets: Securely store passwords, recovery phrases, PINs, or any other sensitive textual data.
  • File Secrets: Encrypt and safeguard important files such as private documents, API keys, or encrypted backups.
  • Image Secrets: Protect sensitive images, diagrams, or QR codes used for authentication and access control.

Regardless of the type, every secret is linked to a Keepic—a user-provided image that acts as the key for accessing and decrypting the secret.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a New Secret #

Step 1: Log in to Your Secrets Vault Account #

Open Secrets Vault and log in with your credentials.

Step 2: Start a New Secret #

  1. Click on the “Add Secret” button on your dashboard.
  2. Select the type of secret you want to store:
    • Text (for passwords, keys, phrases, etc.)
    • File (for PDFs, documents, keys, etc.)
    • Image (for authentication images, sensitive QR codes, etc.)

Step 3: Enter Secret Details #

  1. Provide a Name: Enter a descriptive name for the secret (e.g., “My Bitcoin Wallet Key” or “Work API Key”).
  2. Assign Tags: Tags help categorize and quickly find your secret. Example tags:
    • Seed Phrase, Wallet Key, Password, Other
  3. Attach the Secret: Depending on your selection:
    • Enter text manually if storing a text-based secret.
    • Upload a file for file-based secrets.
    • Upload an image for image-based secrets.

Step 4: Select and Upload Your Keepic #

  1. Choose an image that will serve as your Keepic (this can be any innocuous photo).
  2. The system will use visual cryptography to associate your secret with the image without altering it.
  3. The Keepic can be stored anywhere—even publicly—without security risks.

Step 5: Confirm and Secure Your Secret #

  1. Click the “Save” button to finalise the encryption process.
  2. The system will process the secret and ensure it is securely stored.
  3. A confirmation message will appear, indicating successful storage.

Step 6: Backup Your Keepic #

  • Since the Keepic is essential for recovering your secret, store multiple copies safely.
  • You can share it via cloud storage, keep it in a personal gallery, or save it in a trusted location.

Adding the Secret to your Favorites #

By adding the secret to your favourites, you ensure that it will be easily accessible from your Secrets Vault dashboard.

Sharing Secrets Securely #

  • You can grant access to a trusted contact by providing them with the Keepic and authentication verification.
  • Shared secrets remain secure, as the image itself does not contain any embedded data.
